WARNING on Expo-Guide from the UKTI |
To all UK companies attending trade fairs (anywhere in the world).
If you are a company exhibiting at trade fairs (in any business sector) you may be approached by an organisation called Expo-Guide, with a view to agreeing for your company details to appear in the online business directories they provide for participants at trade fairs.
Expo-Guide is a Mexico-based company. As is clear in the small print on the documents you may be asked to sign, registration of company details online (at www.expo-guide.com) is free. If however you fill in and sign the form you may be offered in person, you are effectively placing an order with the company, for which there is a charge.
We are aware of several complaints filed by companies using the services of Expo-Guide, claiming that they were lead to believe that the service is free (which it is online), and therefore filled in and signed the form they were offered. They are then unpleasantly surprised when they are billed.
When they object they are shown the form – which does state that signing the form constitutes an order – which they signed.
We would therefore advise all companies contacted by representatives of Expo-Guide to read the form very carefully before signing, and only to sign if they are prepared to pay for the service being offered.
